The best time to visit Bhutan is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the skies are clear, making it ideal for trekking, sightseeing, and attending festivals.
Yes, all foreign visitors (except for Indian, Bangladeshi, and Maldivian nationals) require a visa to enter Bhutan. The visa is arranged through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator or one of their international partners. You need to book a pre-paid, guided tour to obtain the visa.
Tourist must pay a daily Sustainable Development Fee.(SDF) of $100 per night for adults and $50 per night for children aged 6 to 12. Children under 6 are exempt from the SDF. The SDF for Indian nationals is Nu. 1,200 per person per night, with children aged 6 to 12 paying Nu. 600 per night.
Independent travel is not allowed in Bhutan. All tourists must book their trip through a licensed Bhutanese tour operator. This policy ensures a safe, well-organized, and culturally respectful experience for visitors.

We really enjoyed our trip to Bhutan. What a beautiful and unique country. Wangdi, our super enthusiastic guide, learned us a lot and told us about Buddhism and Bhutan. Our driver also drove very well and was pleasant. All four of us look back on a very beautiful and special trip. The Tro hotel was very nice, and we really enjoyed all the luxury. But also the farmhouse in Gangtey (Phobjikha Valley), where we sat on the floor with the family around a small stove, was an experience we wouldn’t have wanted to miss.
